Recent announcement by The Guidant Company, maker of heart defibrillators has created a lot of confusion in the market. When society hears the word “defibrillator” they become perplexed wondering which defibrillators are being recalled. Is it the one I own? Guidant recently learned of two patients dying due to their implanted cardiac defibrillators malfunctioning. Guidant recently issued a warning worldwide about possible problems with some of their devices. The recall includes nearly 50,000 cardiac defibrillators currently implanted in human hearts throughout the world. The primary purpose of this Press Release is for clarification and to comfort those who either own external defibrillators or are currently considering purchasing one.
